Connor Onion
Connor Onion is a play-by-play announcer for Big Ten Network and ESPN.
Connor debuted with Big Ten Network in January 2021 and calls football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, track & field, water polo and gymnastics.
In fall of 2021, Connor joined ESPN’s College Football roster. His first two assignments were at nationally ranked Cincinnati, a 2021 College Football Playoff invitee. He also earned postseason assignments, broadcasting the Division I Playoffs (FCS) and the DIII National Semifinals. In 2022, he called a weekly game on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
During the 2021-22 & 2022-23 basketball seasons, Connor called College Basketball & High School Basketball on ESPN2 & ESPNU. Part of Connor's ESPN Basketball work included the 2022 High School Girls National Championship Game & the 2023 National Invitation Tournament (NIT).
On top of his national TV work, Connor has appeared on regional TV, calling college hockey. For Bally Sports North - home of the Minnesota Wild, Twins & Timberwolves – Connor broadcasted “Hockey Day Minnesota” in 2022 & 2023.
Connor has announced several championship events.
For Big Ten Network, he broadcasted the 2022 Big Ten Baseball Tournament at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, home of the College World Series. Connor was also on the call for the 2021 Men’s Gymnastics National Finals & the 2022 Big Ten Track & Field Championships.
Connor also provides play-by-play for the Ohio Valley Conference Men’s & Women’s Basketball Tournaments on ESPN’s digital platforms (2018-present).
Prior to Big Ten Network and ESPN, Connor was the “TV Voice of the Southern Illinois Salukis,” broadcasting Southern Illinois football and basketball on ESPN’s digital outlet, The Valley on ESPN.
Connor has vast experience in professional baseball. He’s called games for the Quad Cities River Bandits (Houston Astros Affiliate, 2017), Kane County Cougars (Arizona Diamondbacks Affiliate, 2018-19) & was "The Voice" of the Chicago-based Windy City ThunderBolts (2021-22).
Connor was raised in La Grange, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, where he grew up emulating Michael Jordan, Sammy Sosa, Niklas Hjalmarsson & Dan Marino in his backyard. He attended Ball State University & was a part of the nationally recognized "Sports Link" program.
